On diaries
While Googling, I came across a quote from Sir Walter Scott:What is a diary as a rule? A document useful to the person who keeps it. Dull to the contemporary who reads it and invaluable to the student, centuries afterwards, who treasures it.
I think he's wrong about the dull part, and I should hope I don't have to wait centuries for my PhD.
On an interesting note, I've also seen this quote attributed to an actress in 1908, Dame Ellen Terry. By the BBC no less.
